Fire, Ice, and…Pirates? That’s right – a few days ago Fortnite jumped back on the scene with the release of the long-awaited Season 8. This update not only brought on some tremendous changes to the Fortnite map (as usual), but also added various weapons – while also vaulting a few items in the process. Fortnite introduced a Pirate cannon which can launch projectiles, dealing 100 direct hit damage or 50 nearby hit damage while vaulting the Sneaky Snowman, Chiller Grenade, X-4 Stormwing, Shopping Kart, and the All-Terrain Kart.
Having trouble completing challenges? Epic launched a new feature called Party Assist which will allow you to complete daily or weekly challenges with the help of your friends – you are limited to the regular modes and it has to be a true squad of friends, not just random ‘fill’ members who get generated in.
As an addition to the new map, we now get to experience Fortnite lava – but be careful, Lava will deal 1 damage per touch and will cause players to bounce off the surface. Furthermore, Volcanic Vents were added which will boost players and vehicles into the sky.
Data miners have stumbled across a possible new rifle addition to the game named ‘BattleRifleSixties’ – the stats rest close with the infantry rifle. Many Fortnite players who have had the chance to comment on the leak are not very happy with this possible addition with some saying there are too many rifles in-game and it would be ultimately useless. Many other players are pleading to Epic Games to bring back the Burst Rifle which was vaulted in early January.
More Recently as of March 2nd, Epic Games detailed some improvements to audio in Fornite. Epic Games received tremendous feedback on certain audio items with the release of v8.0 – Seth, an Epic Games Audio Developer listed the following changes:
- Improvement to the standard AR sound so that it’s not overbearing on the shooter.
- Tightened up the sound so its more of a Blaaaam versus a BLAAAAM.
- Building piece destroy sound is louder when instigated by enemies.
- Helps mitigate scenarios where “that guy hand cannon’d a wall behind me and I didn’t hear it.”
- Footstep audio blends in the above/below layers, rather than abruptly switching between them.
- Prevents jarring footstep transitions between floors directly above or below. Should clear up some confusion.
- Footstep occlusion traces from the heads of enemies when they’re above or below.
- This helps mitigate scenarios where an enemy has line-of-sight on you, but their footsteps still sound muffled/occluded.
- Reduce volume of the S8 palm tree umbrella.
- This only affects the umbrella open/close layers. Don’t worry, the steel drum riff volume is preserved.
