Surfs Up [6/10 Update]

We are back at it again folks with another update for the war that keeps raging on, Surfs Up. It has been about 15 days since our last update and boy have some things changed! Before we get into the thick of it, remember that below we will track previously recorded data compared to data recorded today – you can check out some pretty big changes since war kicked off.

One of the biggest events that have happened during this war has been the Nova Riata exploit – which has damaged not only reputations, but costs a lot of players their nations and – Nova Riata no longer exists. Through a series of investigations, it was found that Nova Riata found some exploit to basically duplicate resources at mass which obviously would allow them to not only distribute those resources for growth but make a ton of cash of it in the process through the global market. We won’t cover that story in its entirety here, most of the details were laid out pretty clear from the process, through the crime, to the justice handed out by players and Admin right on the PW Forums, we’ll add some links to the bottom of this post if you missed it.

As these two spheres battle it out in this ‘fun war’  – let’s take a look at the current total damages for both sides (graphs below) – Ketog is looking at a Total Net damage of $83.14 Billion while Chaos is sitting roughly with a Total Net damage of about $-84 Billion.

The famous NPO-Owned War Statistics tracker is tracking the current stats of the war which is being called ‘that’s bait’ – you can always check out those stats for this conflict and other conflicts on NPO’s stat tracker.

Here is a graph for STARTING (close to the beginning) stats for dealt and received.

During the peak of the massive political changes that hit Orbis, many alliances promised more wars, frequent skirmishes, and a bit more fun – the only other example of a fun war that Orbis received from these promises was SOUP declaring war on WTF and Fark.

Again, we spoke to leading members of each group and alliance to see where their minds are today vs on day one.

CHAOS

Charlie Traveler – Soup Kitchen

Charlie told us that “the war is tough! KETOG are skilled adversaries, we’ve been able to find some places to improve internally during this war and it’s been [a] great experience for our side.” When we asked if they are still having fun, Charlie added: “losing is always tough, but war is very fun!” We’ll see how he’s fairing on the next check-in.

Ripper – Church of Spaceology

Dog Jump GIF - Dog Jump SuperJump GIFs

Ripper shared this gif with us, stated “A member posted this today (Betusomething)” and he noted that it was “Chaos upper tier coming out of beige.” We also asked Ripper if he was still having fun and he told ORB, “It’s rare to not have fun during a war. Although there is always stress, etc.” Ripper did mention to us that he “thinks it’s obvious that GOB and Guardian didn’t attack CoS just ‘for fun and because they were bored,”’ but he did mention that the war is still light and non-toxic.

Squeege – Seven Kingdoms

Unfortunately, Squeege doesn’t care about the war  nor commenting for his alliance. ORB called him a piece of shit.

We reached out to Seven Kingdoms & The Knights Radiant who have not shared a comment. We hope all is well.

KETOG

Keegoz – Knights Templar

When we asked Keegoz how the war was going he said: “it’s going well, we seem to just be sitting on them now.” He also added that “a lot of our guys who got hit heavy in counters are trying to now push their stats into the positives.” When we touched on the funness of the war Keegoz told ORB that although he hasn’t been able to fight much, he’s been told: “it’s getting less enjoyable as more chaos members are generally suiciding and/or rolling over.”

Buorhann – The Golden Horde

Buorhann told us that the war is going pretty well; “granted a lot of our top tier are sitting there watching. Damage is still accumulating on both sides, our low tier players are getting in much-needed experience.” Buorhann tells us that the war is still fun for his alliance and adds “I’ve shared some friendly barbs here and there. As for the sphere? Some of them are having a lot of fun and some of them are just waiting to see what happens next.”

Peace Talks

When we interviewed the parties above, we also asked about peace and the negotiations they may be taking part in. It seems that peace has been kicked around, but there are no definitive plans for peace at this time. Charlie tells us, “we have a tentative idea of how things will end, but no one has been willing to commit pen to paper, so it’s still up in the air.”  – all parties have echoed this same sentiment.

Front Line Expands

There hasn’t been much expansion with alliances joining in, as we heard above – the general house rules for this fight is to keep it as closed off as possible. We have had a few slight changes with the current war roster with Arrgh originally being reported, but now Oblivion holds that spot – and as we all know and as reported above, Nova Riata – although not knocked out in war, knocked out by it’s own doing is also crossed off the roster for Chaos.

Current War Roster:

KETOG

  1. Knights Templar
  2. Grumpy Old Bastards
  3. Guardian
  4. The Golden Horde
  5. Empyrea
  6. Arrgh
  7. Oblivion

CHAOS

  1. Valinor
  2. Nova Riata

[UNITY] on Orbis

Just like a real-life society, there come times where there seems to be an increase in exposure of certain topics – these can change from politics, war, and even the type of new fad diet you should be on. Everywhere you look you’ll find something that directly relates to the topic, continuously exposing you until one day you wake up and it’s like it never happened – for Orbis, that’s racism.

Racism has always lurked the shadows of Politics & War, an online simulation game, just like it does pretty much everywhere a network of people are pushed together to form a community. Communities that bridge grouped networks from all over the world coming together in one spot, there is bound to be some difference in opinion and beliefs which generally leads to what we are here to talk about, Racism on Orbis.

There have been many instances and reports of racism, but for this story let’s go back in time – nearly a year ago, August 2018. Thalmor, of Knights Templar, placed a bounty that was considered offensive on another player, Queen M. The bounty was placed as “1488000” – most of us might not think twice about the bounty, but what it actually meant was 14/88 which is a reference to the fourteen-word white supremacist slogan “We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children.” – now assumably and widely known, Thalmor is white and Queen M is not. One of the main reasons this particular case attracted a lot of attention was because Queen M found out who sent the bounty when bounties through the game are supposed to be anonymous. Long story short here, Alex – game admin/owner – shared this information to Queen M, we won’t go deep into that side of the story, but if you’d like to check that out you can do so by visiting this thread.

Today, we focus our light on another Knights Templar nation – Muhammad Johnson of Adraya. A quick look at this player’s nation and you’ll find a somewhat satirical hit for anyone looking to throw a flag on racism, antisemitism, or the like. Some interesting notions that we have found during our investigation have been the interesting city names, one being “Einsatzgruppen” which was a paramilitary death squad of Nazi Germany responsible for mass killings in Germany-occupied Europe. Earlier today, June 6th, Adraya attacked no other than Queen M who now goes by Cardi B-adu in-game with the declaration reason of “I’ll get the tree if u get the rope.”

racist

Regardless of your opinion of Queen M, who did catch a lot of flack a year ago with the Thalmor issue, these types of actions within this community should cause us to question – what is right and what is wrong – or more, what is appropriate? We could go up and down and label every instance of complaint with ‘you’re an SJW’ or throw the liberal card into the mix and just keep telling people to get thicker skin, but when we cut through the thick of all that bullshit, we get to the point where we should truly decide as a community. What if the argument was flipped? What if you felt truly attacked? We all come from different walks of life and have had our own trials and tribulations – why do we fight each other at this level?

This isn’t about creating more of a divide – mass media and politicians across the world do enough of that for us. We have all developed this world of Orbis together – across political boundaries, country regulations, opinions, beliefs, and even language barriers. Together, we have brought this game to where we stand today and together we can choose to actually build a more positive and accepting community. This isn’t to say that we can’t joke, we can’t have fun – actual satire is fine and reminds you of your base and where you stand. It also isn’t to say that you can’t have an opinion that differs from someone else, a religion that is different or a belief that is different – however – deliberate attacks on specific people, groups, cultures in an attempt to troll, be negative, or look cool with your buds shouldn’t be tolerated – we as a community can stop that.

This post also isn’t to paint a negative picture of Politics & War, but more to motivate a sense of urgency to its game admin and the moderation staff – do something, you’re here to protect the community, its time to fulfill your commitment.

We built this community, let us UNITE and make sure it remains our community, together.

Bezzers did report this war declaration to moderators at about 1840 CST.  About an hour ago (2240 CST) Alex, Game Admin, issued a nation strike against the offender.

It is worth noting for this post that we did reach out to the leader of Adraya who used this declaration reason and did not have a response, at the time of writing this article this player was active within 2 hours.

Update: The player in question did respond at 22:32 CST.

‘Surfs Up’ [5/26 Update]

Knights Templar member, RAM of Dark Castle was the first to kick off the war on May 25th in-game time, between the KETOG and Chaos blocs striking The Knights Radiant. Keegoz, Knights Templar leader posted KETOG’s Declaration of War at approximately 7 pm CST on the Politics & War Alliance Affairs forums.

Boredom has once agains struck our shores. The months of inactivity, consolidation and posturing have left this game quiet and boring. We have therefore decided to ride the boredom wave straight into Chaos. People who we believe know how to have some fun, fight and put on a good show. – Keegoz

KETOG houses Knights Templar, The Golden Horde, Grumpy Old Bastards, Guardian, Empyrea – with connections to Oblivion. Chaos houses Seven Kingdoms, Church of Spaceology, The Knights Radiant, Soup Kitch – with connections to Nova Riata and Valinor. Theodosius provided an early look at tiering for both sides on the PW Forums:

The famous NPO-Owned War Statistics tracker is not currently housing stats for this war, we assume they will add this war to their roster soon. tracking the current stats of the war which is being called ‘that’s bait’ – you can check out those stats on NPO’s stat tracker.

Here is a graph for current (close to the beginning) stats for dealt and received.

graph start

During the peak of the massive political changes that hit Orbis, many alliances promised more wars, frequent skirmishes, and a bit more fun – the only other example of a fun war that Orbis received from these promises was SOUP declaring war on WTF and Fark.

CHAOS

We reached out to all the parties involved in the current conflict to get initial reactions andogd just a few words from the frontlines. Charlie of SOUP and Squeegee of Seven Kingdoms shared the same image – quickly solidifying the fact that this is a fun war, and there are more memes to come. Squeegee added that they are having fun and “fires burn in all the right places 😉 ”

When we spoke with Schirminator from The Knights Radiant he told us “Overall, it’s fairing alright. We have a lot of newer members getting their first taste of war and so far, KETOG has been pretty respectful towards us. It’s a good and fair fight and I look forward to being a part of it.” Schirminator also added “even though I got triple dec’d and I’m personally losing my fight XD” Adrienne told us that it’s “been hectic of course, but pretty fun so far and I’m enjoying the chance to go up against some old friends hahaha.”

Church of Spaceology leadership, Ripper, told ORB (jokingly) “This time, GOB will really have to change their acronym.”

KETOG

Keegoz from the other side of the war, Knights Templar said: “I hope it is a fun war and so far it is going as predicted, we’re securing the top/whale tier and they are trying to secure the mid to lower tiers.”

Buorhann from The Golden Horde had a little bit more to say; “The plan of the war was to find someone that we thought we’d have fun fighting. After seeing the effort done between SOUP and Fark, we figured we’d give it a shot on fighting Chaos as a whole.”

If you remember from before SOUP hit WTF and Fark and the exchange was handled as peaceful and fun as possible.

“Already, they’re using their upper tier nations to down declare and make the use of their military as much as possible before they’re zeroed out, which is a smart idea on their part.” Buorhann also added that “they can do memes, we’re going to do memes, and we hope to entertain everyone.”

Empyrea had a little bit of a rough start themselves when a member was given permission to mess with perms on their discord server – all war channels were suddenly public. We spoke with CitrusK who said “I think the war against CHAOS is going great so far. I’ve yet to turn beige which is a really good sign, and it’s just fun.”

Thanks to all the leadership for being good sports with us on this, we look forward to keeping up with y’all as the war progresses.
