Game Scoop

Brian Fleming, Producer at Sucker Punch Productions says Ghost of Tsushima is an epic, open-world samurai adventure set during the Mongol invasion of Japan, 1274. “We’re telling an original story set in the world of feudal Japan – a time of warfare, chaos, and violent change.”

You will be playing as Jin Sakai, but you’ll also gather friends on your adventure, one you of these friends is Masako, the archer, who is visible within the début trailer above. Brian describes Masako as a deadly onna-bugeisha who teams up with Jin to save their homeland from the Mongol invaders. Masako’s tragic personal history is said to drive a wedge between Jin, which ultimately forces you to duel at the end of the experience, Brian says.

Sucker Punch says Masako is only one of the many side characters and quests that make up the structure of Ghost of Tsushima. Besides maintaining your own storyline narrative within the game, these side characters will also provide the player with quests and stories for you to explore.

Official Gameplay Trailers

Overall, after seeing the official trailer and various gameplay videos posted by Sucker Punch and others who saw this game at E3 we can officially say that ORB Gaming is looking forward to this title. The stunning world running quality visual assets, the smoothness of movement while navigating and while in battle, mixed in with the action sequences and cut scenes – Ghost of Tsushima is shaping up to be a great title.

Book of the Dead – Unity Demo Team

Although never confirmed as an actual video game that will be coming out in 2019, many gaming sites and channels are confirming this as a PS4 MMO – Book of the Dead is a Unity Interactive Demo showcasing capabilities of Unity 2018 for powering high-end visuals for game productions. This trailer was published to Unity’s YouTube channel January 16th, 2018.

For those of you who thought this was a game that was coming out in 2019, we are sorry to say that you have been tricked – but this could be a precursor to what games will look like in the coming years, so we figured we’d give you a little insight about this demo trailer, the work that went into it and how you might be seeing this type of visual in games to come.

What is it?

First off, Unity is a cross-platform real-time engine that is developed by Unity Technologies. The engine can be used to create three-dimensional and two-dimensional games as well as simulations for its many platforms using C#. Pronounced C sharp, C# is a general-purpose, multi-paradigm programming language.

Unity created the Book of the Dead demo to showcase their 2018 version of the program which applied multiple sources to create a stunningly realistic gaming universe. For this demo they deployed their Scriptable Render Pipeline which is an alternative to the Unity built-in render pipeline. With SRP, creators can control and tailor rendering via the C# scripts – allowing creators to slightly modify or completely build and customize the render pipeline to their needs.

The demo team utilized their own Unity engine with SRP while adding in Quixel Megascan Assets and in-house photogrammetry. With this setup they also created their own custom vertex shader to create a unique and realistic wind throughout the environment shown in the demo trailer.

Why the Hype?

We believe because this demo trailer looked this great and seemed to have the making of a great game, many in the gaming community thought this was going to be a game to be published in 2019. Tie in the fact that this was also tested with PS4 Pro – you have pretty much all the ingredients needed for the hype. We saw this trailer on some youtube videos with titles like ‘Upcoming 2019 MMO Games’ or ‘The best MMO Games Coming to PS4 This Year’ – but this was simply a demo to showcase the quality of Unity and what creators can do with this engine.

What to Expect from Unity

I think we can all expect Unity to continue to modify their engine to push the envelope for new games across all platforms. Games that we play use an engine of some sort to display what you are seeing, but top gaming engines such as Unreal and Unity take the prize. They allow creators to immerse gamers in a world of realism while using real life image rendering to create stunning assets to create the world you are playing in.

TL;DR – Unfortunately, Book of the Dead is not a game, so don’t expect this title to be hitting any PS4 game stores – however – Unity did give all assets for this demo for creators, so maybe you’ll see this quality and power in games coming out in the future.
